Intentionality and doing things the right way
Colleagues and friends,
What a great quote from author Hunter S. Thompson: “Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.” It dovetails with the guiding principles for the Reimagining IT initiative:
- Where things work well, we will respect and build upon it.
- Where things can be improved, we will work to find the very best solution.
We already do a lot of things really well, but we recognize there are opportunities for improvement and optimization. It’s important that we are intentional along the RIT journey to uncover those opportunities in order to enable the important work our colleagues across Penn State do in support of the mission of this great institution.
The Discovery process has begun in two units – Finance & Business IT and Enterprise IT. During Discovery, we will get a clearer picture of every unit’s services and resources. Then can we move toward optimizing our investments and freeing up resources to support the innovative and unique services that our faculty, researchers, staff, and students deserve.
As we continue to move forward, we are updating leadership, presenting the concepts to our stakeholders, taking in feedback, and learning from transformations that have occurred at other universities. Each of these steps allows us to adjust our path as needed.
As always, I encourage you to stay informed and offer feedback. The best avenue for both is the RIT.psu.edu website.
